Problem

Presses are at the center of many metal forming operations, and the right press must match the customer’s part, tooling, material, tonnage, stroke, speed, safety requirements, and production goals. Whether the need is a new mechanical press, hydraulic press, replacement of aging equipment, a blanking press, or a complete press line, VMS helps customers evaluate the full pressroom process instead of treating the press as a stand-alone purchase.

What VMS delivers

Press selection
Mechanical and hydraulic press recommendations based on part requirements, tonnage, bed size, shut height, stroke, speed, energy, material, tooling, automation and operator workflow.
Replacing aging presses
Support for replacing older presses that are difficult to maintain, create excessive downtime, or no longer meet safety, control, speed or production expectations.
Complete pressroom
Feed lines, coil handling, press controls, tonnage monitoring, die protection, light curtains, guarding, lubrication, scrap removal, conveyors, transfer automation, foundations, rigging, electrical, startup, training and service.
Application support
Stamping, blanking, hand-transfer operations and automated press lines for high-volume production, fabrication, appliance, HVAC, automotive, construction, furniture and other formed metal applications.
Single point of contact
Coordination from press selection through layout, installation planning, startup, training and long-term support.

Proof

VMS supported Hancock Enterprises with 18 Stamtec presses, helping replace older dry clutch and brake presses with newer wet clutch and brake technology, improved controls, guarding, and safer operator layouts. The project helped improve safety, reduce wear and maintenance, increase throughput by approximately 15%, and reduce downtime to single digits for the year.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do we know whether we need a mechanical press or a hydraulic press?

The right press depends on the part, material, forming process, tonnage, stroke, speed, energy requirements, dwell needs, tooling, and production volume. Mechanical presses are often a fit for repeatable higher-speed stamping applications, while hydraulic presses are often considered when the process requires full tonnage through the stroke, longer dwell, forming flexibility, or application-specific force control.

When should a customer replace an older press?

Replacement should be considered when older equipment creates excessive downtime, maintenance cost, noise, safety concerns, control limitations, slow cycle rates, inconsistent production, or difficulty supporting current tooling and operator requirements. VMS can help compare repair, retrofit, used equipment, and new press options.

Can VMS support a complete press line instead of only supplying the press?

Yes. VMS can support the press, feed line, coil handling, controls, guarding, tonnage monitoring, lubrication, scrap handling, conveyors, foundations, rigging, electrical support, startup, training, and service coordination depending on the customer’s scope.

What information is needed to quote or recommend a press?

Helpful information includes part drawings, material type and thickness, tonnage requirements, bed size, shut height, stroke, speed, feed direction, automation needs, tooling details, safety requirements, available floor space, foundation needs, utilities, target production rate, and whether the customer needs a stand-alone press or a full press line.
